A Typical Night
Ready?! Set! Go! It's Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. You can feel the electricity. Club members have brought friends and everyone is excited. There are games to play, awards to be given, learning activities to participate in, and a special theme for the evening. The Family Life Center is buzzing with energy.
Game Time
The official AWANA relay circle is positioned within a thirty-foot square. Enthusiastic kids line the borders of the square cheering on their team mates. There are a choice of 101 games which can be played with colored batons, bowling pins, bean bags, tug-o-war ropes, and more, and the kids love them all. The game coordinator knows his job. He directs the fun while kids learn sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline. Each club has their own game time and enjoy fun, confidence-building activities.
Small Group Time
At small group time children break into small groups for a more intimate learning experience with their friends and a devoted club leader. Leaders lead kids in discussion and prayer about specific needs and reinforce the evening's devotional. During this time kids also work toward their advancements and awards. Understanding and memorization of God's word is the central goal as well as involvement in ministry and community service.
Counsel Time
A highlight of the evening is the counsel time. Children worship together by praying, singing, and listening to a Bible message. Kids are challenged to respond to God by receiving Jesus as Savior, obeying His word, trusting Him, or in other ways. Counsel time is also the time of recognition for the work individual kids have performed. Since a feature of AWANA is its short-term attainable goals, kids receive awards often and this spurs them on to greater accomplishment.
Uniforms and Awards
Kids are proud to wear a uniform that signals their involvement and accomplishments in AWANA. Kids wear an official club shirt. Each time a child attains the next step in their journey, they are rewarded with the appropriate patch, pin, or trophy. Of course, the most lasting reward is their deepening love for, and understanding of, God's Word.
